Nevada's New 50/100/25 Minimum (Effective July 1, 2025)

Effective July 1, 2025, Nevada raised auto insurance minimums from 25/50/20 to 50/100/25. This is one of the largest single-state liability increases in the past decade — doubling bodily injury limits from $25,000/$50,000 to $50,000/$100,000, and increasing property damage from $20,000 to $25,000.

Every policy renewing on or after July 1, 2025 had to meet the new minimums. Many Nevada carriers raised premiums 10–25% to accommodate the increased limits. Drivers with old policies should re-shop at renewal — carrier pricing for the new minimums varies significantly.

Why Nevada Needed Higher Limits

Nevada's prior 25/50/20 limits were among the lowest in the country and had not been updated in decades. Medical-cost inflation, vehicle-value inflation, and Las Vegas metro accident severity had pushed typical serious-accident claims well beyond the old limits.

The new 50/100/25 floor better matches real-world accident severity, but still often falls short for multi-vehicle collisions or injuries requiring hospitalization. VKOVR recommends Nevada drivers carry 100/300/100 liability with UM/UIM matching.

UM/UIM Stacking Recommendation

Roughly 10% of Nevada drivers are uninsured. UM/UIM coverage is not mandatory in Nevada but must be offered by carriers — drivers must reject it in writing. With the new 50/100 liability floor, VKOVR strongly recommends UM/UIM matching at 50/100 minimum, with 100/300 preferred.

Stacking UM/UIM across multi-vehicle households multiplies available protection. Nevada carrier stacking rules vary — review with VKOVR at every renewal.

Las Vegas Theft and Comprehensive Coverage

Las Vegas has elevated vehicle-theft, break-in, and catalytic-converter theft frequency. The Kia/Hyundai theft wave has affected Nevada since 2022. Comprehensive coverage (not liability or collision) pays for theft, break-ins, and weather-related damage.

Strip-adjacent ZIPs, central Las Vegas, and North Las Vegas see the highest comprehensive claim frequency. VKOVR recommends comprehensive with a $500 or $1,000 deductible on every Las Vegas-registered vehicle. Reno and rural Nevada typically have lower comprehensive exposure.
